Escape to Which Mountain?

By Andrew at 8:47 AM

One way that I enjoy relaxing after a long day at work is to go for a hike at one of the various parks in the area. Most of the parks that I go to have miles and miles of trails, many centered on or including terrain from a “mountain.” Since I am from a rural area, and attended college in a state known for its agricultural pursuits, living in the middle of what amounts to a suburb right outside of a major metropolitan area is a new experience for me. That is why I enjoy even a limited escape from the noise and bustle of the city. continue »

Wrangling on the Farm

By Andrew at 8:55 AM

I am a Render Wrangler.  Now, I sometimes forget to consider the humorous connotations that these two words exhibit when taken individually, but I have been told by people such as my mother that she thinks of cowboys when I talk about my position.  Sorry, I am in the West, but no cattle drives!  In short, a Render Wrangler is someone who manages renders.  That is why my official title is “Technical Resource Administrator,” since we administer, or wrangle, technical resources (computers). continue »

Light Escaping the Computer

By Andrew at 9:20 AM

What exactly is a “render wrangler”?  I am looking forward to tackling that question, but first I think that I need to define “rendering”.  In another post, I will build off of this definition and further explore what my job looks like.  For now, I will try to adequately describe a process that I am a part of and why it is needed. continue »

Where am I?

By Andrew at 9:10 AM

So much has happened since I last posted!  For those of you who are not aware, I will start at graduation.  Last May I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Huntington University in Indiana with two majors: Digital Media Arts-Animation and Computer Science.  My senior animation team released a short film called “What Remains,” which I produced and wrangled renders for (important later on!) and which can be seen at WhatRemainsTheFilm.com.  I worked with a great team on this project, and really enjoyed the experience!  I also worked on another fun team developing a ticket-sales system for fine arts events. continue »

Review: “Tangled”

By Andrew at 10:05 AM
Image from Amazon.com

I know this is a little late, but “Tangled” was a very good movie that I enjoyed seeing twice so far, once late last fall, and then again recently on Blu-ray (amazing quality, by the way).  “Tangled” is what new Disney releases should be.  The style, the storytelling, and the overall cohesiveness of the music, characters, and animation is of the high quality that I would expect from such a production studio.

“Tangled” is the Disney retelling of the the story of Rapunzel continue »

Yesterday my first iPhone app was approved for the iTunes App Store! This project was derived from a January-Term course at my school, which I then polished and prepared for submission. Take a look at the app on the iTunes store here.
